4 Benefits Of Invisible Braces

Posted on: 30 May 2018

Invisalign invisible braces are growing in popularity for their many benefits. With invisible braces, the dentist uses trays instead of metal to move your teeth. If you are unhappy with your smile, but you don't want a mouthful of metal, consider clear braces, but first, check out these four benefits of Invisalign braces.

They Are Clear

Traditional braces are made with metal wires and brackets. While you can choose tooth-colored or clear metal, people can still see the wire and brackets. Invisalign, however, uses clear plastic aligners. They are custom made for your teeth, so they only fit you. With metal braces, the dentist tightens them to move the teeth, but with invisible braces, you get a new set of aligners to slowly reposition your teeth. The aligners are completely clear, allowing your teeth to show, making it look like you aren't wearing braces at all.

They Are Comfortable

The metal wires and brackets with traditional braces can be painful. They may poke your cheek or gums. However, aligners are smooth. This makes them much more comfortable to wear because they won't scratch or poke the inside of your mouth. As with traditional braces, there is some discomfort when you get a new set of aligners because they are forcing your teeth to move.

They Are Removable

One of the biggest drawbacks of traditional braces is that they are not removable. While the dentist can remove them when necessary, you can't. This makes it difficult to clean your teeth during treatment. As a result, you may have to avoid certain foods that get trapped under the brackets and wires. Invisible braces are removable, and you are supposed to remove them to eat and clean your teeth. However, it is imperative you wear them the rest of the time to ensure treatment is effective and efficient. Once you're done eating, make sure to clean your teeth before replacing the tray so you don't trap bacteria and plaque.

They Fix Many Cosmetic Concerns

Invisible braces are great for fixing many cosmetic concerns, such as crooked or gapped teeth. They can also correct minor overbites, but they are not great for severely crooked teeth or teeth that are rotated.  You will likely need to wear a retainer for the rest of your life after treatment. Failing to use the retainer allows your teeth to move back to their original position, but as long as you use the retainer, your results should remain.

With clear braces, everyone can get the smile they want without the embarrassment of metal braces. If you think invisible braces are the right choice for you, don't wait. Contact a dentist in your area to get a quote and treatment plan.
